However, the DSM has no significance in the Native American holistic world view or for the medicine men and women who treat the relatives. For NCI the DSM only describes the difference between substance abuse and dependence. The traditional counselors use other means to determine the origins of the individual's problem. The systems at NCI for healing native people have been used or practiced for 1,000 s of years and as such are practice-based interventions.
Our program provides up to 60 days of traditional residential treatment divided into 2 phases of 30 days each for men and women 19 and up.  Our traditional team guides and directs the chemically dependent relatives on the road to recovery focusing on their physical, mental, and spiritual aspects.  If you have any questions please call ext. 108.
