High Risk:
A link in the bridge to recovery.
High Risk is overseen by
Shawnadine Becenti, along with our
nursing staff.
Vision:
The High Risk department is dedicated to re-enforcing the importance of health
and enabling our clients to take an active role in the responsibility for their
own health. We acknowledge our role as a member of the treatment team in the
fight against alcohol addiction and will work always to protect the lives of the
client under our care.
Mission:
The mission of the High Risk Department is to provide basic, quality, nursing
care and health monitoring that is conducive to rehabilitation and a therapeutic
environment.
Commitment:
The commitment made by the High Risk Department reflects the dedication to
remain knowledgeable in the care of chronic and acute alcoholism and emergency
response. It reflects our dedication to work within our community and with other
health care facilities to ensure that at least the basic health care needs of
our clients and relatives are met as they struggle through their addiction.
Shape:
In November of
2001 the High Risk Department added services for clients in
collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control, IHS, and the Public Health
Department. Currently we are testing for various STD's (Sexually Transmitted
Diseases) including HIV as well as referral for any needed medical care and
counseling services.
The High Risk Department is a sixteen bed medical bay. Our nursing team is made
up of one licensed RN who oversees the department as the Nursing Director, and 5
certified nurses assistance. Nursing care is provided 24 hours a day 7 days a
week. The entire nursing team is certified in CPR, First Aid, and assisting with
medications.
Clients admitted from GIMC or other agencies, clients with BAC's (breath alcohol
content) .300 or above, and clients with chronic medical conditions that are
exacerbated by alcohol are placed in the medical bay for observation and care.
The nursing team is trained to deal with a variety of emergency situations,
including seizures, and injuries resulting from assaults and falls (common cases
of trauma here at NCI)
The Nursing Department holds a custodial drug license allowing us to accept
clients who are on any medication. A consultant pharmacists performs quarterly
visits and reviews policies annually.
In our addition to basic health monitoring and responding to emergency
situations the nursing team educates clients on various health issues related to
alcohol abuse, vitamin intake, chronic disease and the importance of medication compliance.
