The Detox Department cares for the Relatives 24/7.  BHT's intake the Relatives when they enter NCI's doors and they discharge them when they are ready to leave.  Along with the BHT duties, they sometimes must prepare quick meals for Relatives that are too intoxicated and need food in their systems.
Legal authorities, Judicial system, family members, or counselors may bring any intoxicated person 18 years or older to NCI (even "against their will") for a 3-day emergency detox-services if they feel that this person is a danger to themselves or to others (State Statute 43-2-18 NM 1978). Referring agencies must complete the brief NCI admission form in person, over the phone, or via fax for Protective Custody (PC).  All departments help to reduce public intoxication.....
